Psychological Testing

People need psychological testing for many different reasons. If you wonder if your child has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), your physician should refer him or her to a licensed Clinical Psychologist for a Psychological Evaluation. The reason for this is that you should rule out any other causes of ADHD symptoms, such as Learning Disabilities, Asperger’s Disorder, Autism, depression, test anxiety, or other psychological problems before a child is prescribed medication. The same is true for adults. Some adults require psychological testing to assess if they are Fit to Stand Trial in legal cases, or if they have adequate parenting ability in custody cases. Other requests for psychological testing is to assess a person’s disabilities, either due to severe mental illness, Learning Disabilities, or Mental Retardation. Sex Offenders are required to participate in Psychological valuations to determine their mental capacity and their risk to the community. Some individuals need a Psychological Evaluation due to requirements of the Department of Immigration. Either an immigrant is Mentally Retarded and cannot pass the Constitution test (which can be proven through IQ testing), or the immigrant or their family members are requesting that they be allowed to remain in the United States due to mental hardship, which can be proven by personality tests that determine the presence of mental illness. Regardless the need, Psychological Tests are important, and can be used for many applications in court, schools and government.
